After praising country life and sport, he turns to the question of whether rationality and sensibility exist in animals, seeking to prove they do not. In other words, a philosophical-religious defense of hunting, not a how-to treatise. The engraved frontispiece by J. Scott shows a medallion portrait of a man in profile, surrounded by game and hunting equipment. Engraved title page with a hunting vignette, fox mask, and hound head within a vine border.
