If Wishes were Horses Beggars Could Ride [on teaching riding]

Christy, E.V.A. If Wishes Were Horses Beggars Could Ride. London: Nicholson and Watson 1947. 88p, ca. 60 photos and line ills. Good hardcover (back cover stained in good d.j. (torn). ** Advice on how to teach riding (the author was a World War I military riding instructor). Of special interest for the brief but then unusual chapter on riding for the disabled, including the use of a sidesaddle with a false leg attached to it. Great photo of a gymkhana rider jumping in her pajamas. "The riders had to jump several fences, dismount, eat a bun, open a bottle of lemonade, drink it, put on pyjamas, light a cigarette and keep it burning to the finish, open a sunshade, then mount again and jump the same fences back." (Wells 1489). Item #15888
