Fair to good hardcover (full contemporary leather-backed boards, which show normal age-rubbing). Foxed throughout, some pages chipped. Crayon scribbling on front pastedown. rear endpapers torn. Binding very sturdy. In German fraktur (Gothic type). ** Unlike other American veterinary books of the day, this is not a collection of folk recipes but a detailed manual on the care of horses and cattle, diseases, surgery, breeding and foaling, etc., for the Pennsylvania German farmer and horse breeder. The author was a graduate of the Austrian Veterinary School. Some copies (but not all) are said to have a folding frontispiece plate and/or an index of remedies; this copy has neither. The final 8 pages, which are complete as is, comprise a German-English dictionary of medical terms, index to the text, and errata. Stated first edition, with Eastern District of Pennsylvania copyright statement in English facing the first text page. Can be sent outside the U.S. for less than the default shipping rate.
