The Origins of the Modern Morgan: A Study in Contrasts

1988. Item #16786

Telford, Kenneth A. The Origins of the Modern Morgan: A Study in Contrasts. Randolph, VT: Author (Cantieglen Morgans) 1988. 467p, many photos, 7-generation pedigrees, and charts. Fair but complete paperbound. Covers quite stained and coming off. Yellow highlighting throughout the first ca. 200 pages. Other small stains and short tears. ** Here the author presents and analyzes the results of his extensive research into the ancestry of the Morgan horse, based on scrutiny of printed sources (in which he points out many errors) and on oral tradition and information. The book is a tour-de-force of pre-internet pedigree research. He also writes about the history of the Morgan Horse Club and various fairs. One chart lists the many "Registered Morgans with more Saddlebred blood than Morgan," which he calls "mongrel stock." The book was not widely distributed and is still hard to find. The price of this copy takes into account its condition.
