1950. Item #16983
Private Collector. Scrapbook of Pictures of Girls and Women in Riding Breeches. 1950s. Album containing ca. 70 mounted and loose clippings from various sources--magazines, newspapers, publicity photos--that show women and girls wearing jodhpurs, breeches, other riding trousers, and one riding skirt. Some are on horseback, some are standing or seated. Chiefly reproductions of black-and-white photos, a few color illustrations. Chiefly English wear, some Western. Most subjects are unidentified. Some of the pictures apparently came from a clipping service in California. Two photos are publicity shots from the Harley-Davidson Motor Co., with a cover letter. The subjects range from cowgirls and trick riders to the fox hunt in "Auntie Mame" and a wedding on horseback. There are many horse show pictures (jumping, gaited riding). Leatherette spiral-bound photo album. The clippings are mounted within 5 double-sided acetate pages or laid in at the rear. One (or two) has been cut out. Overall very good. The collector's name is known from a letter laid in. [Fashion, Popular Culture].
