LeR DLa CaNpaNe paR DUBUFe J [1 of 165; Alfonso Ossorio association]

Paris: L'Art Brut, 1948 (Noel). Dubuffet, Jean. Limited edition. Stapled soft cover. [18]p, 3 linoleum cuts and 3 woodcuts. Given by Alfonso Ossorio, Dubuffet's longtime friend, fellow Art Brut artist, and collector, to an American art historian friend. The owner noted the gift on the front cover. Light edge wear and soil to covers; two short closed tears and paperclip indentations to back cover and last page. Tears mended with removable tape. "France" is stamped on the front cover. Very good, especially considering its fragility. Item #30248

The "premier véritable livre de Dubuffet," and an early example of Art Brut printing. Written, illustrated, and printed on the dining room table by Dubuffet (assisted by his wife), using rudimentary materials and printing techniques. The illustrations were printed from the lids of Camembert cheese boxes. Using squares of fine silk, Dubuffet stenciled his nonsensical phonetic text onto newsprint. One of 165 unnumbered regular copies (plus 15 deluxe). Can be sent outside the US for less than the default shipping rate.

Price: $1,200.00
