As first issued, in the Mémoires de l'Académie des Sciences de l'Institut de France, vol. 41, series 2. The 7 plates are lithographed in flat colors, one with a window flap that lifts up to show a different view of the central color. Chevreul's late-career expansion on his influential researches into color and the perception of it, which greatly influenced Seurat and his contemporaries.
