One lot, an edition of Jacobus de Voragine, contains "one of the earliest known bookplates" (ca. 1470). Juliana Force was a pioneering collector and curator of American folk art in the 1920s. She collaborated with Gertrude Whitney on the founding of what became the Whitney Museum of American Art, which was temporarily administered from her apartment, and she stayed involved with the museum and modernist art for the rest of her career.
