New York: Instantaneous Photo View Co., n.d. [ca. 1900]. Photograph. Ca. 6 x 4 inches on mount that is ca. 8 1/2 x 6 inches. The mount is poor quality cardboard; the bottom right corner is close to chipping off. Photo is very good. Item #30402
Sepia-toned photograph showing the storefront and sidewalk display of A. Monroe, Fine Groceries, Fruits & Produce. Many packaged items and loose vegetables are neatly arrayed out front, along with buckets, baskets, and brooms. There are signs for butter, eggs, and aerated bread. The other signs are hard to make out; some packages bear a Maltese cross. Within the shadowed interior are high shelves lined with more goods. A woman, child, and baby in carriage stand in the doorway--perhaps the Monroe family? We haven't been able to identify the location. The photography firm shows up in records in 1897. Can be sent outside the US for less than the default shipping rate.
