Oliva dubbed the Italian version "La Transavanguardia." Contains "Transitional Art" by Oliva, "Art and the Crisis of Models" (Oliva in dialogue with Giulio Carlo Argan), and "A General Survey of Contemporary Painting." The first two texts are in English and Italian. The survey consists of short texts by various writers on trans-avant-garde art in the U.S., Germany, Italy, Britain, Austria, France, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Yugoslavia, Canada, Australia, Israel, Latin America, and Spain. The texts are generally in the national language and are not translated. Carter Ratcliff contributed the U.S. essay.
