Turf and Tanbark; The Newspaper of the Horse World

New York: Turf and Tanbark, Aug. 15, 1936, and April 1, 1937. First edition. Soft cover. Two issues. 31p (1936) and 23p (1937), many photos and ads. Ca. 10 x 13 inches. Good (cover wear and soil, as shown); internally very good, clean, complete. Item #30475

News notes about personalities, horses, and shows, etc.; short feature articles. Some emphasis on Saddlebreds and jumpers, but a little bit of everything. How Massachusetts bridle trails were surveyed by airplane, radio broadcast of the 1937 New York Easter Parade from a four-in-hand coach, “unfamiliar” Suffolk Punch imports, etc. The 1936 issue summarizes various shows and features horses from Ohio, “home of fine winners!” Lots of unusual nuggets of information here. The magazine was published for only 5 years (1934-1938). The covers show Saddlebreds Shayne O’Neil and Star of Stars. Offered as a group. Shipping/handling may be extra; please keep this in mind when ordering.
