In 1942 Denys Odilio (who later during his long military career became known as the "strong man" of the Brazilian army) was appointed commander of the Military Police of the Federal District; in 1946 he joined the Ministry of War. This volume describes and illustrates how to carry out five mounted demonstrations with lances in a military tournament--the ceremonial entrance, a display of maneuvers, spearing rings, use of lances against dummy opponents, and simulated combat including jumps. Each demonstration has a page of instructions and from 1 to 3 plates of diagrams. The diagram(s) for demonstration 2 (maneuvers) is/are missing, if issued. The instructions and plates are bound out of sequence. Imperfect, but very scarce. From a distinguished Brazilian equestrian collection.
