Otto Koegel of Kaywood Farms reprinted this 18th-century translation for his friends who "might be interested to know something of horsemanship as it was understood twenty-five centuries ago" and who might "feel, as I feel, envious of the riding abilities these ancients possessed." It was first published in Richard Berenger's 1771 The History and Art of Horsemanship. Koegel was a prominent lawyer and local preservationist and historian. (Wells 8390).
