The Gentleman's Stable Directory; or, Modern System of Farriery [etc.] [1796]

London: Printed for G.G. and J. Robinson, and G. Kearsley, 1796. 13th edition (1st pub. 1788). Hardcover (new half leather, marbled boards, marbled fore-edges, gilt-tooled spine). xvi, 512p + engraved frontispiece portrait of Taplin. Complete in one volume. Owner's ink name, 1809. Very good (frontispiece foxed). Item #31258

A very popular work on ailments of horses and their treatment, which went through many editions. This edition includes a supplement on lameness and on canine distemper. Taplin writes that his advice is "interspersed with occasional references to the dangerous and almost obsolete practice of Gibson, Bracken, Bartlet, Osmer, and others," although he isn't so reliable himself. Beautifully rebound. Good for a handsome gift.

Price: $95.00
