1986. Item #9411
Somerville, E.OE., and Martin Ross. The Real Charlotte. Ed. by Virginia Beards. University of Rutgers Press 1986 (1st pub. 1894). 298p. Very good hardcover in very good d.j. ** Although the Anglo-Irish cousins Somerville and Ross are best known for the Irish R.M. stories, critics consider The Real Charlotte their finest novel. The focus is less on hunting than on Charlotte's rise in Irish society thanks to her theft of a deathbed inheritance. For aging eyes, the print is clear though rather small. With an introduction and notes by Virginia Beards. Although the jacket states "An Alternate Selection of the Reader's Subscription Book Club," there are no other signs of a book club edition. Can be sent outside the U.S. for less than the default shipping rate.
