Freeman, Ronald L. The Arabbers of Baltimore. Centreville, MD: Tidewater 1989. 176p, many black-and-white photos by the author. Very good large paperbound (as new, but spine faded). ** A loving and evocative portrait of the black horse-cart peddlars of Baltimore--among the only traces left in the U.S. of the urban horse-powered world. The chapters consist of "The Arabber's World" by Charles Camp, "My Roots in Arabbing," "The Stables," "Buying Produce and Loading the Wagons," "Serving the Community," and "Friends, Family, and Community." The author worked for a time as an Arabber.
