Lichtwark, Alfred. Palastfenster und Flugeltur. Berlin: Bruno Cassirer 1905. 3rd ed. 203p, no ills. Very good hardcover (paper over boards, stamped in gilt); small smudge to front cover. Front hinge exposed but binding very sound. In German. ** Based on a series of lectures on modern art and "the arts as an economic factor" that Lichtwark gave in 1891 and 1892. He develops his concept of "fitness for the purpose" in his discussion of furniture and the organization of interiors, especially the practical and aesthetic advantages of a horizontal and high placement of windows. His examples are taken from both modern and vernacular architecture. (Summary taken from a typescript laid in the book) Can be sent outside the U.S. for less than the default shipping rate.
