1923. Item #A6423
Anderson Galleries, NY. The Library of John Quinn. Parts 1-5 (complete), 1923-24. Each, hundreds of lots, several ills. Unpriced. Good paperbounds (some covers lightly chipped, bottom corner of part 5 torn away, a few pages browned from newspaper clippings). Pencil notes on covers and occasionally inside. Overall sturdy and clean. ** A landmark sale, including the manuscript of "Ulysses." In his introductory note Quinn notes that his library had grown so large he was faced with storing it. "I came to feel that once they had been stored they would remain stored indefinitely, perhaps for years. That led me to the determination to sell them." Storage Wars is calling. One of Dickinson's Notable American Book Auctions.
