1954. Item #A6561
Duthuit, Georges. A Painter of Awakening: Jean-Paul Riopelle. NY: Pierre Matisse Gallery 1954. One sheet, folded twice to make 4 panels including color cover. Unfolded, ca. 21 x 18 inches. Fair: browned, torn at creases and edges, tack holes in corners. The previous owner (an artist) apparently made some additions to the cover in silver paint, which he or someone mostly covered up with black ink along the right side. ** This was Riopelle's first American exhibition. Duthuit's text was translated by Samuel Beckett. (WorldCat cites 1 location, Quebec National Archives).
