Kara Walker [1 of 1000, signed]
Walker, Kara

Walker, Kara. Kara Walker. Chicago: Renaissance Society 1997. N.p., many ills., a few in color, some others printed on vellum. Very good hardcover (white cloth, stamped in black on front and back, large gold-leaf oval affixed to front). No jacket, as issued. Light rubbing to lettering along front cover outer edge, which seems due as much to an uneven application of the ink as to any wear, which is trivial. One of 1000 copies, printed by Meriden Gravure. Boldly signed by Walker on the title page, dated 1998. ** An artist-book-like presentation of Walker's writings, her disturbing comic-like silhouettes of sexually charged racism, and her art in other media. Published in connection with the Renaissance Society exhibition. A very nice, collectible copy. Walker's enormous "Sugar Baby" sculptural installation, which addresses the interconnection of slavery and the sugar trade, is now on view in Brooklyn. (Item ID: 1005775)
