Art Principles in House, Furniture, and Village Building
Clark, Arthur Bridgman

Clark, Arthur Bridgman. Art Principles in House, Furniture, and Village Building. Stanford University Press 1921. 128p, over 200 photos and line ills. + 3 sheets of plans in back pocket. Very good hardcover (boards rubbed and a little blistered; internally fine). ** Analyzes the principles of good design "which every house builder, furniture user, and village dweller should know." The author was a graphic art professor at Stanford, and many of his examples are San Francisco Bay Area residences (Craftsman, Spanish Mission, etc.). The chapter on interiors features efficiency in kitchens and pantries. The chapter on city planning and garden cities includes much on parks in Burlingame and San Mateo and on St. Francis Wood in San Francisco. Not every home is harmonious: one photo shows "a large plaster house of brag and errors." (Item ID: 1006038)
