We are away until early October. One activity is the Attingham Trust tour of country houses, stables, and other equestrian-related sites in and around Newmarket and York, England. We're looking forward to it!

Hunting Reminiscences [1843, fine binding]
Nimrod, pseud. [C.J. Apperley]

Nimrod, pseud. [C.J. Apperley]. Hunting Reminiscences. London: Rudolph Ackermann, Eclipse Sporting Gallery, 1843. [4], [x], 332p, 23 engraved ills. (including chapter initial letters) + 10 engraved pls. including pictorial title page. Very good hardcover. Full red leather, spine and dentelles elaborately gilt tooled (edges rubbed). Original green cloth covers bound in. Outer pages foxed; very occasional stains. Bookplate of G.C. Hopkins. ** Issued posthumously, this work collects several of Apperley's separately published writings: "memoirs of Masters of Hounds; notices of the crack riders; and characteristics of the hunting countries of England." Many of the plates are maps of the leading hunt countries, each with a headpiece engraving and usually with meet locations highlighted by hand in green. Other illustrations show hunting scenes by Wildrake (George Tattersall), H. Alken, and C. Henderson. Very nice for a special gift. (Item ID: 10496)
