Dressage in the French Tradition

Braganca, Dom Diogo de. Dressage in the French Tradition. Xenophon Press 2011. 196p, many photos and line ills. New paperbound. ** Here is the first English translation of this classic history and analysis of French dressage from a Portuguese point of view (first pub. 1975, later revised). Part 1 treats the rassembler and ramener. Part 2 covers "The Old School" (La Gueriniere and Marialva) and Baucher and his two manners. Part 3 looks at contemporary "academic horsemanship" from several angles: the FEI standards, its practice in Portugal, and a critique of Baucherism. Mounted bullfighting is also discussed in Parts 2 and 3. Most of the photos show Andalusians or Lusitanos. The author was a longtime student of Nuno Oliveira, who called him "one of my best students." Can be sent outside the U.S. for $20 or less. (Item ID: 14885)
