We're delighted to announce that we'll be taking part in the Attingham Trust Study Programme, "The Horse and the Country House," in England in September. We have in stock some of the books on the program's suggested reading list. A selection of them, plus others that may be of interest, are included in "Featured Books" at the bottom of this page. Quantities are very limited. For other titles related to the program's theme, search by the keyword Attingham, or go to "Browse Horses" and then look through the topics Art, Driving (especially other World on Wheels volumes), Farming, Horses in Society & History, and Hunting. We're happy to ship postpaid to Attingham participants within the United States.

Die Mathematik in der Pferde-Dressur

Monteton, Otto von. Die Mathematik in der Pferde-Dressur. Dresden: Friese & von Puttkamer 1892. 80p, no ills. Fair paperbound (front cover detached and badly torn); back cover is attached; pages age browned but clean and soundly bound). In German gothic type. ** Subtitled "Ein Aufbau logischer Schlussfolgerungen namentlich fur die, welche wunschen gute Jagdreiter zu werden, und auch fur Viele, welche glauben, es schon zu sein." A training program for horses, with an emphasis on hunters. Despite the title, mathematics doesn't seem to enter into it. The author, a Prussian cavalry officer, wrote other riding and training books, of which Uber die Reitkunst is the best known. Very scarce (5 copies in WorldCat, none in the U.S.). (Not in Wells). (Item ID: 14976)
