NY: Putnam 1893. 98p + 16 horse portraits by various artists, and photos. Fair hardcover (covers quite stained, edges rubbed; foxed). Binding sturdy. The first part, by A.H.G., describes the grounds and buildings, including the breeding barn, famous for its vast unsupported interior space . The second part lists 128 horses and ponies--from top Hackneys and trotting horses (Matchless of Londesboro', Almont Wilkes, White Socks, etc.) to the farm's everyday saddle, carriage, and work horses. Descriptions, show records, and pedigrees are given for the leading horses. This book may have been inspired by The Brookfield Stud Hackney catalogue of England, which it resembles. (The earlier, shorter version exists but may have been withdrawn from distribution.) (Item ID: 15085)
