We're delighted to announce that we'll be taking part in the Attingham Trust Study Programme, "The Horse and the Country House," in England in September. We have in stock some of the books on the program's suggested reading list. A selection of them, plus others that may be of interest, are included in "Featured Books" at the bottom of this page. Quantities are very limited. For other titles related to the program's theme, search by the keyword Attingham, or go to "Browse Horses" and then look through the topics Art, Driving (especially other World on Wheels volumes), Farming, Horses in Society & History, and Hunting. We're happy to ship postpaid to Attingham participants within the United States.

Beautiful Hialeah [compliments of Joseph E. Widener]
Thayer, Bert Clark, and George F.T. Ryall

Thayer, Bert Clark, and George F.T. Ryall. Beautiful Hialeah. NY: The Author, 1938. 79p, many photos by Thayer, several in color. Good hardcover (plasticized boards). No jacket (as issued?). Base of spine torn; back cover soiled. The laminated covers of this scarce book never hold up well. Pages age-browned as always; else internally very good. Tipped in: compliments card from Joseph E. Widener, President and Chairman of the Board of the Miami Jockey Club, Hialeah Park. ** "Being the second [and last] in a series of sentimental journeys to America's leading race courses." The text by Ryall, who was The New Yorker's longtime racing correspondent, "Audax Minor," recalls Hialeah's vanished glamour. Thayer's other racetrack book was August in Saratoga. (Item ID: 15410)
