Fair but complete clean hardcover (covers worn, front cover loose but sewing is intact and the binding is sound). ** The title page continues: "To which is added a complete history of the horse, in all countries, in health and in sickness, with a thorough treatise on his breeding, breaking, shoeing and curing. Added to which is given a list of the best trotting horses and famous races in the United States." The featured stallions are Hambletonian, several of his sons, and American Star. Several others are treated briefly, including some Canadian trotters and Morgans. The publisher's ads, with prices and many line ills., are for books, prints, veterinary instruments, anatomical models, etc. The author was a veterinary surgeon.
