Scattered light foxing and stains. ** Self-teaching equestrian guides multiplied in the following decades, but this book was one of the first of its kind. The author aimed to make his instruction "so concise and comprehensive...that all who read and ride may acquire, from an hour's reading, a clear view of the best principles of the equestrian art." Includes driving and ladies' sidesaddle riding. In 1842 a second edition was published under the title The Handbook of Horsemanship. Scarce; 5 copies in WorldCat.
