Very good bright hardcover, stamped in gilt (back cover lightly spotted). ** Subtitle continues: "Old and erroneous theories relative to the management of the horse brought face to face with the facts of the nineteenth century." Hamilton Sample was one of the popular 19th-century horse tamers. This book treats management, diseases, telling the age by teeth, teaching tricks to horses, etc. Also contains a long text by George Fleming, "A Valuable Essay on Horse-Shoeing," pp. 121-220.
