Over 1600p total, photo on every front cover and occasional photos inside (chiefly stallions at stud). Covers soiled and rubbed (especially one corner); magazine covers occasionally faded. In addition to the news and feature articles, vol. 1 lists the 1931 stakes winners (alphabetically and by Lowe family), stakes-placed horses, and stakes races. Vol. 2 lists yearlings sold at 1932 North American auctions. These magazines are a treasure trove of racing information: news of horses, races, farms, and personalities; sales; ads; factual articles such as J.A. Estes on in-breeding in Kentucky Derby pedigrees; etc. The April 16 issue features a cover story on Phar Lap's death, with a poem by Estes. Other prominent horses during the year included Burgoo King, Dark Secret, Equipoise, Faireno, Questionnaire, and Top Flight. Both volumes are fully indexed.
