Terms of Sale

You can order securely from this site, or directly from us by phone or email. All items are subject to prior sale. All are guaranteed as described and are returnable for any reason (see Returns below). Reserved items will be held for 10 days for payment or purchase order. All prices are net; usual terms to the trade.  Prices are in U.S. dollars.

We accept U.S. checks, money orders in U.S. dollars, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, Diners Club, American Express, and PayPal (robin.bledsoe1@verizon.net). Wire transfers will be charged our bank's handling fees, which may be as high as $50.  Orders sent to a Massachusetts address will be charged 6.25% sales tax unless a tax-exempt number is provided with the order.  Institutions can be invoiced, with deferred billing on request.

Shipping and Handling Charges

All rates depend on the shipment's weight, distance, and value.  Rush service, oversized books, multi-volume sets, extra insurance, or special requests may incur further charges.

Media Mail starts at $6 for one book, $1 for each additional book.  Priority Mail starts at $15 for a small book, and $25 for a large book or 2 small books; $2 for each additional book.  Outside the U.S., Priority Mail starts at $40 for a small book, and $90 for a large book or 2 small books (sorry, we don't set these rates!!).  First-Class Mail outside the U.S. (4-pound limit) varies but is sometimes less than Priority Mail.  All U.S. international mail goes by air.

Ground UPS in the U.S. usually starts at $15 for one book, $2 for each additional book.  Expedited UPS is more.

Most items are returnable for any reason for refund, exchange, or merchandise credit, provided advance notice is given within 5 days of receipt. Without advance notice, we will accept returns for exchange or credit only. Shipping, handling, and insurance costs either way are not refunded unless you're returning a book because it isn't as described. In that case we'll refund all these costs. Please pack returns carefully; we reserve the right to adjust the refund if an order comes back in less good condition than it was sent out. All sales are final 30 days from the invoice date (45 days for orders outside the U.S.).

We describe condition carefully and conservatively. All used books are in good or better antiquarian condition, unless otherwise described. Owners' names and bookplates are not always mentioned. Dust jackets, paperbacks, book club editions, and library discards (ex-library) are always identified.  All jackets are original, not reproductions.  Books are usually in the language of their title or country of publication.

As members of the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers, we follow the ABAA code of ethics in all our sales, appraisals, and other transactions.  Your satisfaction is guaranteed.
