Stanley's Races and Acts; Carrying Own Stabling -- Eight Separate Acts

Painted Post, NY: Stanley Attractions, n.d. [1940]. First edition. Folded sheet. One sheet of coated paper, folded in two; several photos on cover. Handling wear. Good. Item #30370

Description of Stanley Attractions' 8 equestrian acts and races, for hire to fair managers.   Many details as to the acts and their unique features (chariot races at night including a lady driver, push ball "with the largest ball in the world"), the financial advantages of hiring a small independent troupe ("free born Americans," "sell direct, no big overhead in commissions"), terms of hire ("Our people live in large semi-truck.... You furnish campsite and water, track in condition to race on and pay on closing day").  Written with charming candor and full of typos--"We are carrying this season a Wester [sic] Trick Riding Act, we don't know whether it will be good," "Nebky Girl is just a nice old registered saddle bred mare...does not step as high as some but a mare that the public likes to see perform." An unusual survivor, documenting an almost-vanished way of life. Can be sent outside the US for less than the default shipping rate.
