Ten Original Souvenir Photographs of Classical Greek Theater in Syracuse, Sicily, 1933; Souvenir Brochure; Theater Ticket

N.p. A. Maltese, 1933. Cambellotti, Dulio. No stated edition. Photographs. The photographs are postcard-size, with printed captions.  Also with: an original ticket printed in color, and "Classical Representations in the Greek Theatre of Syracuse (Sicily)," a brochure that describes the two productions, the modern history of classical plays at Syracuse, and the National Institute of Ancient Drama. Very good (photos and ticket); fair (brochure). Item #30462

Five photos show "Trachiniae" by Sophocles and five show "Iphigeneia in Tauris" by Euripides, each from April-May 1933 productions.  The sets and costumes for both plays were designed by Dulio Cambellotti, renowned for helping revive open-air performances of classical theater. The brochure was mounted in a postcard album, and the back cover is obscured because it is still adhered to remains of the album page.  All from the collection of the architect Cass Gilbert, who traveled throughout Europe from the 19-teens into the 1930s. Sold as a grouip. Can be sent outside the US for less than the default shipping rate.

Price: $40.00
