Vernacular Photo of Algiers, New Orleans

n.d. [ca. 1880s-early 1900s?]. Unbound. Gelatin silver snapshot, printed in sepia on glossy paper. Ca. 4 x 2 1/2 inches. Good. Item #31987

Algiers was (and is) a historically Black neighborhood of New Orleans, across the Mississippi from the city center. This photo shows part of its extensive railyards and a steel and wire bridge of some kind. Two workers are at the wagon on left (one is obscured by the horse), a man and woman(?) are sitting in a cart, while another man and two women look on. Some railroad workers are seen in the lefthand distance. All seem to be Black. Can be sent outside the US for less than the default shipping rate.

Price: $40.00
