Horse Training upon New Principles; Ladies' Horsemanship, and Tight Lacing [cover reads: Horse Training and Witching Horsemanship]

London: W. Clowes and Sons, 1852. Second edition. Soft cover (limp cloth). 35p, no ills. In this edition the dedication to Queen Victoria is signed "Ignotus"; in a later edition it is signed by Wiseman. An owner has noted on the title page that Wiseman is a pseudonym, as does the British Library entry, but there is no external evidence for this identification. Very good (light age wear). Item #32464

The author of this little manual holds firm opinions about the state of British horsemanship, offers his own training techniques, and comments on the skills (or lack of them) of many of his contemporaries. He criticizes tight corseting for ladies, circus tricks, and the methods of Sullivan the Horse Whisperer. Very scarce: 3 copies in WorldCat, none in the US. (Wells 8300) Can be sent outside the US for less than the default shipping rate.

Price: $400.00
