[Hunting Diary with Photos]
1886. Unique album. Hardcover (contemporary half leather, marbled boards; leather label; all rather rubbed and dry). Two mounted photographs within a mostly unused hunting diary, enhanced by marginal ink drawings, plus a 1-page manuscript account of a run with the Albrighton Hunt (Shropshire and Staffordshire, UK). The rest of the diary is blank (100+ pages). Photo 2 is cropped. Good. Item #33003
The photos show 13-year-old Rachel aside, ready for a first day's hunting, April 21, 1886. Both pages are enlivened by humorous ink and wash drawings. The handwritten account of the run is "copied from [Frank's?] Hunting Book." Given her age, I suspect the drawings and handwriting are by an older person. Sadly, Marjorie Cecil Rachel Battye Brasier-Creagh (1873-1899) died in India soon after her marriage and birth of her son. This album recalls her in happier days, living "The Fox Hunter's Dream"--or is she the Dream? Heavy; shipping/handling may be extra. Please keep this in mind when ordering.
Price: $150.00
